Check the people and pharmacy

Put the exact name beside its licence record.

Get the assessor’s full name. Separately, request the dispensing pharmacy’s name; put both beside the business name in your notes.

Check the person doing the assessment

State medical boards publish physician licence information and public disciplinary records, though the detail available varies.

FSMB (Federation of State Medical Boards) names the boards in its directory. Some states use separate boards for different kinds of physician.

Finding no public action in someone’s record does not tell you how good their care will be.

Read note A
  • Does the full name match the person who will assess me?
  • Does the record cover the state where I will be?
  • Is there a public action or restriction I need explained?

If the professional is not a physician, ask which board holds that profession’s licence record. Do not assume a physician search answers the question for another profession.

Check the dispensing pharmacy separately

The links from FDA (the US Food and Drug Administration) to state pharmacy-board licence searches were reviewed September 17, 2026. Use the pharmacy’s full name to look for its licence in the relevant state.

If that state’s pharmacy search has no entry for the online pharmacy, FDA advises against using it.

Keep permission separate from approval

As of September 26, 2026, FDA registration still did not mean a business or its products had FDA approval.

Use the licence record to check permission to practise. Bring the product question back to the exact medicine or preparation.
